SAN BERNARDINO -- Paramedics and police officials are working to rescue a man who reportedly jumped from the 215 overpass onto the 10 Freeway Saturday night and is currently in the wash under the E Street bridge, according to authorities.

Around 8:30 p.m. San Bernardino County Fire officials received a 911 call reporting a man had jumped from the overpass onto the freeway, fire officials said.

California Highway Patrol officers searched for the man but were initially unable to locate him. A short time later, while searching from the E Street bridge near Fairway Drive authorities located the man in the wash below the bridge.

As of 9:30 p.m., authorities had not determined if the man had indeed jumped from the overpass or if he possibly leaped from the E Street bridge.

Initial reports show the man is still alive and communicated with one of the rescuers around 9:30 p.m.

Authorities were planning to shut down the 215 overpass to facilitate a rescue which may include using a hoist to get the man out of the wash area.

More to come.
