Torrance police shot and wounded a suspected burglar in the hand Sunday morning at Morgan's Jewelers as he attempted to leave through the smashed front door.

Two officers discharged their firearms in the 6:15 a.m. confrontation and one bullet struck the suspected burglar, said Torrance Sgt.

The shooting occured as the officers responded to a burglar alarm at the jewelry store at the intersection of Hawthorne and Sepulveda boulevards.

The unidentified suspect was expected to be booked on burglary charges after receiving treatment at a local hospital, Roosen said.
