Police Tase, arrest man after chase
A Salinas man was Tased and arrested Sunday afternoon after reportedly arming himself with knives and leading police on a foot chase through his neighborhood.
Police said they responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of Napa Way shortly after 4:30 p.m. and were directed to Armando Armenta, 35, who became belligerent and fled inside his house.
Armenta then armed himself with several knives, police said, went into the backyard, and ran for several blocks before being stopped in another backyard, where he continued to resist arrest, was Tased and taken into custody.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said, then booked into county jail on charges of trespassing, resisting arrest and violating probation.
Man dies after being hit by pickup, cars
A man was fatally injured after he was struck by a pickup truck and then run over by several other vehicles in the Watsonville area Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Patrolmen said David Kane, 42, of Watsonville, was driving his 2005 GMC Sierra pickup east on Highway 129 between Carlton and Silliman roads shortly before 6 a.m. when he saw a man walking in the road and was unable to avoid hitting him.
Kane called 911 immediately, the CHP said, and while he was on the phone to dispatchers, several other vehicles hit the downed man. One woman later called to report her
The identity of the dead man has not been determined, the CHP said, and the Santa Cruz County Coroner will conduct an autopsy.
Deputies arrest man on $100,000 warrant
A man sought on a $100,000 warrant was arrested at his home at 15790 Horizon Way Saturday evening, sheriff's deputies reported.
Deputies said Garrett Alex Gallegos, 36, was taken into custody shortly after 6:10 p.m. and two rifles, a bulletproof vest, ammunition and methamphetamines were found.
Gallegos was booked into county jail on the warrant, which alleges transporting marijuana, possession of a loaded handgun and driving on a suspended license, as well as new probation violation and gun and drug-related charges, deputies said.
Gunman robs gas station, fills tank, flees
The 101 Chevron gas station at 32655 Silliman Road was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning.
Sheriff's deputies said the robber, wearing a straw cowboy hat, gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black rubber boots, walked into the station shortly after 11 a.m., drew a pistol, demanded money and also ordered the clerk to turn on the gas pump so he could fill up his car, which he then drove away.
Thieves smash door, take Office Max items
Burglars smashed a glass door and took merchandise from the Office Max store, 1241 N. Davis Road, early Sunday, police reported.
The break-in triggered an alarm at the store shortly before 4 a.m., police said, and several items of merchandise had been stolen.
Gang task force arrests 2 after stop
Two men were arrested by gang task force officers Sunday evening after their car was stopped for a traffic violation at Larkin and Victor streets. A gun and drugs were found, police reported.
Police said the car, driven by Jorge Izquierdo, 25, was pulled over shortly after 5:30 p.m., and when officers smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, they arrested Izquierdo and his passenger, Adrian Jimenez, 19. Both are known gang members, police said, and they were booked into county jail on various gang and gun-related charges.
