CAPITOLA -- A Santa Cruz man, shot in the leg, was discovered in a parking lot on the 5000 block of Cliff Drive overlooking the Capitola Wharf on Wednesday night.
Police were called to the scene about 6:10 p.m. after paramedics discovered the man had been shot. The initial call was for a man who had a broken leg, but Sgt. Marquis Booth said the victim, in his mid-20s, was suffering from a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.
The man was transported by air ambulance to a trauma center over the hill.
The victim and another man in the car, who was not injured, were uncooperative, Booth said. Police are unsure if he was shot at the scene or somewhere else.
Capitola police closed Cliff Drive from Wharf Road to 47th Avenue for about an hour while they investigated the scene. The road was reopened about 7:15 p.m.
