SPCA sets 'Lifetime of Love' event
The SPCA for Monterey County will hold its "Lifetime of Love" adoption event Thursday through Monday at the animal shelter, 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway.
Adopters may name their own fees for all cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, small pets and doves. Adoption hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends.
All cats and dogs will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given a health evaluation, and come with a collar and bag of pet food.

Talk on history of Salad Bowl is Tuesday
Meg Clovis, Monterey County Parks Department chief and director of the Monterey County Agricultural & Rural Life Museum, will speak on "Salinas Valley: A History of America's Salad Bowl," at
7 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Center's Carpenter Hall, 9th Avenue and Mission Street.
The program is free and part of Harrison Memorial Library's 2013 Local history Lecture Series.
