Police received a tip that a man had been dealing heroin from a green Toyota 4Runner near Water Street and North Branciforte Avenue, said Santa Cruz Deputy Police Chief Steve Clark.
Police arrived at the intersection and found a Toyota that matched the description and Richard Anthony Berry. Berry was in the middle of a drug sale to a 24-year-old Menlo Park man, police said.
Officers detained both men and searched the Toyota, which yielded cash and about 1 gram of heroin in a fake soft drink can, Clark said. The Menlo Park man was released at the scene and his case was referred to the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office, police said.
Berry, of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin for sale, authorities said. He is being held in Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, according to jail records.
