Business sales down; 9 sold in January
Nine small and midsized businesses were sold in Santa Cruz County in January, down from 14 a year ago, according to the BizBen Index.
Ben Lomond and Santa Cruz each had four sales, and Watsonville had one. Statewide 1,179 businesses were sold in January, down from 1,223 a year ago.
"More businesses are starting to become available for sale because members of the large population of baby boomer business owners are starting to retire," said Peter Siegel of BizBen.com, parent of the BizBen Index.
He said he remains optimistic there will be more sales activity this year than in 2012.
Siegel defines a small business as one selling for $2 million or less. For information, go to http://www.bizben.com.
