RANCHO CUCAMONGA - Two divers kicked their way out of a 42,000-pound truck after it tipped over on Haven Avenue on Thursday.

Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department received a call at 2:22 p.m. that the trailer had tipped over onto Haven Avenue after attempting to make a left turn off of Sixth Street.

"I think when I turned the materials shifted and caused the truck to turn," said Malkiat Singh, driver of the truck that was carrying multi-colored cable wires.

Malkiat Singh and passenger Sukhdep Singh shattered the glass on the passenger side of the vehicle and crawled out for safety.

Fire Capt. Augie Barreda said both drivers were out of the vehicle upon arrival, but there was a diesel spill.

"The truck can carry 150 gallons, and the driver said the tank was about three-quarter full. And I'd say a quarter to half of the tank emptied," he said.

Barreda said the spill has been contained but Haven Avenue south of Sixth Street will remain closed until about 7 p.m.

The truck is 53-feet-long and had just departed from Southwire Service Center, which is a block away from where it tipped over.
