Anxious girls, some as young as 13, converged on Fairplex in Pomona on Sunday for the Quinceanera Magazine Expo.

A quinceanera is a Hispanic tradition celebrated on a girl's 15th birthday with a church ceremony and a large party to indicate she is ready to be introduced to society.

The expo showcased dozens of vendors, among them those exhibiting gowns, dresses, tuxedos, catering, event locations - including the Hollywood Wax Museum - and many, many photographers.

One of the trends that seems to be taking hold is the departure from the traditional white quinceanera dress to large, poofy, brightly colored-dresses and much more elaborate parties.
