Biker runs off trail at Toro Regional Park

A 48-year-old man was rescued by firefighters after his mountain bike ran off a trail at Toro Regional Park Monday.

Firefighters said they were called at 3:30 p.m. A rescue team drove into the park, then hiked down to the injured cyclist. They placed him on a litter, carried him up and took him in an all-terrain vehicle to an ambulance for transport to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.

Man arrested after search turns up drugs

A Marina man was arrested at his home after sheriff's deputies serving a misdemeanor warrant found drugs and cash in the house Sunday night.

Deputies said they went to 266 Reservation Road to serve the warrant shortly before 9 p.m. and arrested Justin Samuel, 24, after a search of his residence turned up cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin, as well as $3,200 in cash. Deputies arrested Samuel and booked him into Monterey County Jail for drug and parole violations as well as the warrant.

Kitchen fire causes family to evacuate

A kitchen fire caused a family to evacuate their home in the under-100 block of Mayfair Street Sunday night, firefighters reported.

The fire broke out at 11 p.m. after unattended cooking materials ignited on a stove, firefighters said. The fire was confined to the kitchen and extinguished.

No one was injured, firefighters said, and the residents sought shelter at relatives' homes.
