Body found in burning vehicle
A body was found in a burning vehicle about 6 p.m. Tuesday on the 1100 block of Parkside Street in Salinas, firefighters said.
Firefighters received a call about a vehicle on fire with a person inside and arrived within three minutes to find the car engulfed in flames, Battalion Chief Brett Loomis said.
After putting out the fire, firefighters found the remains of a person "beyond medical care," he said.
The Fire Department and Coroner's Office are investigating.
Information about the fire's cause and the victim, including gender, was unavailable late Tuesday, Loomis said.
Woman tied up during home-invasion robbery
An elderly woman was attacked in her residence early Tuesday by a man who assaulted her, tied her and robbed her, police said.
Police said the attack occurred just after 5 a.m. when the man entered the woman's home in the 300 block of Carmel Avenue, hit her with an object, bound her with a piece of clothing and demanded money.
He took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled, police said.
The woman was tied up for at least a half-hour before wiggling free and calling police.

Two arrested in theft of food from church
A man and a woman were arrested after St.
A neighbor told police she saw a woman enter the church at 148 8th St. at 3:40 p.m. and walk out with miscellaneous items, police said. The woman got into a car with a man at the wheel, and they drove down Lighthouse Avenue toward Monterey.
The car was stopped by Monterey police near Del Monte and Figueroa avenues, police said. Food taken from the church were found in the car, police said.
Arrested were Jessica Galloway, 22, on suspicion of burglary and David Ballard, 24, charged with violating a restraining order to stay away from Galloway, police said.
Galloway was released on her own recognizance, police said. Ballard was booked into Monterey County Jail.
Man robbed at gunpoint outside restaurant
A man was robbed at gunpoint outside a restaurant in the 800 block of North Sanborn Road on Monday, police said.
Police said the man was accosted by two men shortly after 8:30 p.m. One man pointed a gun at him and ordered him to lie on the ground.
The robbers went through his pockets and took a cellphone and cash, police said, then ran to a car where a third man drove them away toward Closter Park.
Police use Taser on man who brandished knife
A man was tased and arrested Monday after brandishing a knife at officers who responded to a report that he was violating a protective order, police said.
Police said Donald Breeden, 52, was taken into custody at 11:45 a.m. on San Juan Grade Road, where he was sitting in his truck.
When ordered out of the vehicle, police said, Breeden brandished a knife and refused to drop it. He was then tased, police said.
Police said they were called to the 18800 block of Eisenhower Drive on the protective order violation, but Breeden left before they arrived.
Breeden was booked into Monterey County Jail after being examined at a hospital for minor injuries, police said.
Police on lookout for stolen Pontiac
Salinas police are looking for a car stolen in the 900 block of Rider Avenue late Sunday.
A 22-year-old man was sitting in his parked 2006 Pontiac G6 about 10 p.m. when a man came up, demanded money and told the victim to drive him to a location on Williams Road.
The victim ran from the car and the carjacker drove away.
The four-door Pontiac is gray with Arizona license plate number AMG2306.
