Blue is a beautiful and uniquely colored 5-year-old Catahoula hound that was found as a stray in Capitola and sadly never claimed. After weeks of waiting, it became clear that she was going to be in need of a new home and she came to the Santa Cruz SPCA to find the perfect one.
Blue has spent a bit of time in a few foster homes and we've been able to learn quite a bit about her.
First of all, this girl is gorgeous with beautiful blue, black and silver merle dapples painted all over her body. She has one blue eye and one half-and-half -- there is no way to miss her and she really stands out in a crowd!
She's just as sweet as she is beautiful and has shown herself to be well-mannered in the home and housebroken, even whining to go out. She knows some basic commands like "sit", "stay", "down" and even "go to bed." Blue has enjoyed daily outings to the beach and absolutely loves it. She'll play with other dogs, roll in the sand and chase tennis balls all day if you let her.
She's very friendly and gentle with people, enjoying the company of children and even seeking out men. This dog is the type that you can bring with you everywhere! She does pull a bit on the leash so she's currently being walked in a "no-pull" harness that is helping but should probably receive a refresher training course.
Although Blue is great with dogs of all sizes when she's out and about, she prefers to be the only dog in the home. She will bond very deeply and strongly with her family and will make someone very happy.
Blue is at that perfect "middle of the road" age where she's active but not overly so and has a bit of training already under her belt. She will require a good long walk at least once a day, if not more, and enjoys going out on social dates with other playful dogs.
Staff and volunteers make it a point to give her lots of love and attention, but we can't help but notice that Blue gets the blues from time to time and is ready for her new family to come and find her. If she sounds like your perfect fit, come on down and meet beautiful Blue!
