Edward John Mendez, 57, is suspected of robbing the Mojave Desert Bank in Helendale Thursday, sheriff's officials said. Mendez was found late Friday morning at a Silver Lakes barber shop getting a haircut and was arrested on suspicion of robbery and burglary, according to booking records.
On Thursday afternoon, a man later identified as Mendez reportedly entered the bank and demanded money from a teller, according to a news release.
Another employee noticed what was taking place, realized it was a robbery and called 911, officials said.
Deputies were unable to locate Mendez but soon identified him as a possible suspect, according to reports.
On Friday, Deputy Malcom Page and Detective Joe Catalano were able to positively identify Mendez as the bank robber. Mendez was found late Friday morning in the Silver Lakes barber shop.
Authorities brought Mendez back to the Victor Valley station and conducted an investigation. They were able to recover evidence linking Mendez to the bank robbery.
Mendez was booked into the Victor Valley station and is being held on $100,000 bail.
According to Megan's Law, Mendez has been arrested and convicted of sexual battery.
