Driver shot, then drives to hospital
A driver in Salinas was shot multiple times by a passenger in another vehicle on Monday afternoon, police reported.
Around 1:10p.m., a 25-year-old man and two passengers, one a child, were heading west on East Laurel Drive in the slow lane, approaching North Sanborn Road, when a gray truck, possibly a 2000 Dodge, pulled into the next lane. A passenger in the truck fired several rounds at the other driver, striking him twice in the upper body. The victim was able to drive himself to the nearby hospital for treatment and no one else was injured, police said. A nearby residence was struck by one bullet.
Police said there were no other injuries, and although the motive for the shooting was unknown, officers are investigating it as gang related.
The victim was flown to a San Francisco Bay Area hospital for treatment of his injuries, described as serious but not life-threatening.
Stabbing suspect remains at large
Police are seeking a woman suspected of stabbing another woman multiple times during a birthday party late Sunday.
Police said Mary Jane Yanez, 32, fled the party in the 300 block of Archer Street after a 31-year-old woman received multiple knife wounds on her face, chest and back after a verbal argument turned violent. Police said the injuries were serious but not life-threatening.
Officers first responded at 11:42p.m. to a report of a fight at the party and 40 minutes later learned the victim was being treated at a local hospital.
Yanez has not been found.
Anyone with information on Yanez' whereabouts is urged to call Salinas police at 758-7321 or the anonymous tip line, 775-4222.
