Concord man killed in Highway 17 crash
A 22-year-old Concord man was killed Monday in a crash on Highway 17.
The man was driving a 1998 Honda Civic south on Highway 17 near Pasatiempo Drive some time before dawn, said California Highway Patrol officer Bradley Sadek.
In wet road conditions, the man "veered" off the road and hit a tree, Sadek said.
Authorities received a call about the crash about 5:50 a.m. Officers found the car cold and declared the man dead at the scene.
The car was about 100 feet from the road. No one else was in the car and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The southbound Pasatiempo Drive offramp was closed for more than two hours during the investigation.
Authorities have not yet released the man's name.
The CHP advised drivers to slow down during and after rainfall.
Woman dies in crash on Felt Street
A 78-year-old woman died Monday in a collision on Felt Street that was caused by a medical emergency before the crash, the California Highway Patrol reported.
About 3:25 p.m., a Santa Cruz woman was driving a red Toyota sedan on the 2500 block of Felt Street when she drove down an embankment, said CHP officer Bradley Sadek. She hit bushes but did not collide with anything large during the crash, authorities said.
The road was dry and weather did not appear to be a factor. She was declared dead at the scene, Sadek said.
Authorities have not released the woman's name or cause of death. Authorities closed the end of Felt Street for more than one hour as a crew retrieved the Toyota.
Central Fire also responded to the call.
