LAS VEGAS—Former Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks is set for an arraignment in a Southern California case stemming from a car chase and police confrontation in March.

Brooks is scheduled to appear Tuesday in a Victorville, Calif. courtroom on charges including evading and resisting an officer and harming a police animal.

A judge last month ordered Brooks to answer to the charges after hearing from Barstow police officer William Spiller. He testified that a disheveled Brooks started a 20-minute chase after arguing with a tow truck driver March 28.

Forty-one-year-old Brooks was arrested along Interstate 15 in Victorville after a struggle and has been in a San Bernardino County jail ever since.

The confrontation came hours after Nevada lawmakers voted to expel the Democrat from the Legislature amid his erratic behavior.
