BAY POINT -- A man wanted in an 18-year-old cold case murder in Barstow was arrested Dec. 12 at his Bay Point apartment, a Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office spokesman said Thursday.

Fernando Trujillo, 49, was arrested on suspicion of the 1995 murder of Barstow resident Dwayne Askew, according to the Desert Dispatch, a Barstow-area newspaper.

Jimmy Lee with the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office said a special unit of sheriff's deputies arrested Trujillo at an undisclosed Bay Point apartment complex around 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 12. However, little else was available on Trujillo's arrest.

According to the Desert Dispatch, Trujillo has since been extradited to the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga where he is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Trujillo allegedly shot and killed Askew on May 30, 1995. Askew was found lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to his head, the Dispatch added.
