Cal exploded for three runs in the seventh inning and rolled to a Pac-10 Conference baseball win, 5-2, at Stanford on Saturday.

The victory puts the Golden Bears in third place in the conference at 11-9, 28-18-2 overall. Stanford remains in second place (10-7, 28-18-2).

Josh Satin was hit by a pitch to open Cal's seventh inning. Brett Jackson and Blake Smith both walked to load the bases. Jeff Kobernus cracked a two-run single to right field to give the Golden Bears a 3-2 lead. Michael Brady reached on a fielder's choice to plate Smith.

Jake Schneider had two hits and two RBIs for the Cardinal.

WOMEN'S GOLF

Cardinal ousted in playoff: Stanford's bid for a berth in the NCAA women's golf championship fell short at the West Regional tournament at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club.

Stanford, UC Davis and Ohio State finished three rounds of regulation play tied for the eighth and final NCAA berth at 28-over par. Davis, however, won a playoff to advance.

USC won the team title at 9-under 855 over three rounds.

Cal finished tied for 12th. San Jose State finished 16th.

UNLV's Therese Koelback was the individual winner with a 6-under 210.

Stanford was led by Angela King who tied for 11th at 1-over 217. Rebecca Durham finished tied for 25th at 7-over 221. Cal's Allison Goodman finished 20th in a group at 4-over 220. Pia Halbig ended up tied for 35th (+7, 223).

San Jose State's Erica Moston was 13th with a 2-over 218.

LSU 0: The No. 8 Golden Bears defeated No. 27 LSU in the second round of the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Tournament at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The Golden Bears advance to the round of 16 to face No. 9 Duke next weekend in Tulsa, Okla.

The Bears got a quick doubles win from Bojana Bobusic and Cristina Visico rolling.

Stanford 4, Texas A&M 1: Homecourt advantage paid off as the No. 4-ranked Cardinal bounced 31st-rated Texas A&M to advance to the quarterfinal round. Singles victories from Hilary Barte, Carolyn McVeigh and a clincher from Whitney Deason were key.

MEN'S TENNIS

Cal 4, Boise State 2: The Golden Bears held off Boise State to win in an NCAA Division Men's Tennis Tournament first-round match in Los Angeles.

Cal's freshman duo of Jonathan Dahan and Bozhidar Katsarov earned a key doubles win.

Stanford 4, UC Santa Barbara 0: The No. 22 Cardinal breezed into the NCAA second round, at Malibu. They'll play host Pepperdine today.

Stanford's Blake Muller and Matt Bruch won in doubles. Alex Clayton won at No. 1 singles and in doubles for Stanford.

WOMEN'S WATER POLO

USC 10, Stanford 6: The Cardinal dream of winning the NCAA title in its home pool died with a convincing semifinal win by the Trojans.

SOFTBALL

Arizona 6, Stanford 1: The host Wildcats won a showdown for third place in the Pac-10. Sophomore center fielder Alissa Haber went 3-for-4 with a triple to pace the Cardinal offense.

Arizona State 5, Cal 2: The visiting Golden Bears (7-14, 40-24) fell behind early and lost their regular season finale.
