Richmond's African-American population declining
For decades, Richmond was a center for black life in the Bay Area and home to many Baptist churches, blues and jazz clubs and black-owned businesses. But over the past two decades, many black families have moved out of the city, forced out by high crime, redevelopment and a lack of jobs. Now that things are finally improving, black residents face being displaced through gentrification.
