OAKLAND -- One man died amid a hail of gunfire Tuesday evening, police said.

Around 8:56 p.m., officers responded to the 5000 block of Melrose Avenue where 20 to 30 rounds had been fired. The male victim, who has not been identified, had already been driven to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived.

There are no suspects and no motives, according to police. It is unknown if anyone else was injured.

This is Oakland's 35th homicide of the year. Last year at this time, there were 45 homicides in the city.

Fire crews stationed at Engine Company 18 located at 1700 50th Ave., near the scene of the shooting, tweeted two photos of bullets that smashed their building's windows.

Police could not immediately confirm if those bullets that hit the fire station were related to the shooting.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 510-238-3821 or a tip line at 510-773-2805.
