SAN LEANDRO — School board members are asking the community for suggestions on naming the new ninth-grade campus scheduled to open in fall 2010.
Trustees expect to have a title selected by mid-December.
"It's an exciting opportunity," board President Mike Katz said. "I'm very much looking forward to what people's suggestions are."
Board members are accepting name suggestions based on three major guidelines:
A majority of schools in the district are named after people — all elementary campuses are named after former U.S. presidents.
The school board will begin narrowing down a final list of names for the new campus during open meetings in December.
The new campus will be an extension of San Leandro High and will be located at 13900 E. 14th St., walking distance from the main campus at 2200 Bancroft Ave.
Funding for the freshman campus is provided by Measure B, a $109 million school bond that voters passed in 2006. About $38 million of it is being used to construct and build the freshman campus.
Plans for the campus show a 68,300-square-foot building
