Alameda police seized approximately 200 marijuana plants and made one arrest Wednesday after narcotics officers searched an apartment in the city's West End.

A bedroom of the apartment was being used solely for cultivating the plants, police said.

Along with seizing the plants and a .44 caliber "Desert Eagle" handgun, officers arrested Robert Jenkins, 30, who lives alone at the apartment in the 400 block of Buena Vista Avenue.

Jenkins was booked on suspicion of cultivating marijuana and faces other charges in connection with the case, Alameda police Detective Dave Pascoe said.

Officer Darin Tsujimoto began investigating Jenkins after Officer Eric Klaus received a tip that he may be growing marijuana inside his residence.

Jenkins allegedly told police that he was growing the pot for medical use.

The arrest on Wednesday follows Alameda police seizing 41/2 pounds of marijuana and arresting a man and woman Oct. 22, after officers carried out a probation search at a residence on Marina Drive.

Along with the marijuana, investigators seized a computer from the residence in the 3100 block of the street, where police said they also found numerous plastic bags and other evidence of drug dealing.
