The Raiders hired Clancy Pendergast on Monday as their defensive backs coach.
Pendergast, 42, has coached in the NFL the past 15 years, including the past six as a defensive coordinator. He was with the Kansas City Chiefs last season and the Arizona Cardinals from 2004-08.
The Raiders hired Pendergast to replace longtime secondary coach Willie Brown, who announced his retirement soon after last season ended.
Pendergast is the third assistant coach hired since the end of the regular season. He joins Mike Waufle (defensive line) and Hue Jackson (offensive coordinator).
In other news, the Raiders signed guard Brandon Rodd and wide receivers Paul Hubbard and Yamon Figurs to their active roster. Rodd and Hubbard spent time on the practice squad last season.
Browns: Donte' Stallworth will get the chance to resurrect his NFL career, but it won't happen in Cleveland. The Browns released the troubled wide receiver on Monday, wasting little time after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Friday that Stallworth would be reinstated following the Super Bowl.
Stallworth was suspended for the 2009 season by Goodell after he pleaded guilty to killing a pedestrian while driving drunk in Florida. He spent 24 days in jail.
Stallworth, 29, spent one season with the Browns, catching 17 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown in 2008 while battling injuries. He also has played with New England,
Stallworth struck 59-year-old crane operator Mario Reyes the morning of March 14 in Miami. He pleaded guilty June 16 to DUI manslaughter, a second-degree felony, and was suspended by Goodell two days later.
Stallworth signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with Cleveland in 2008 and received a $4.5 million bonus the night before the crash.
49ers: Santa Clara city leaders are set to discuss the final wording of the ballot measure for a proposed stadium for the 49ers. Tonight the Santa Clara City Council is scheduled to discuss language that city staffers describe as a multilayered question asking voters if city leaders should approve the stadium deal. But backers of the proposed $947 million stadium have expressed concerns the language regarding funding is confusing. They hope to get the wording altered before the ballot is made available to city residents.
Super Bowl XLV odds: The Indianapolis Colts are favored to win next year's Super Bowl, according to odds released by BetUS.com. Indianapolis is a 7-1 favorite to take home the NFL championship, followed by the San Diego Chargers (8-1), New Orleans Saints (9-1) and New England Patriots (10-1). The St. Louis Rams, coming off a 1-15 season, are the longest shot on the board at 150-1. The Glantz-Culver line lists the Colts at 7-1, the Chargers at 8-1 and the Saints and Patriots both at 10-1. The 49ers are 45-1 and the Raiders 150-1. The longest odds are 300-1 for the Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Giants: New York has been awarded offensive tackle Herb Taylor off waivers from Denver.
