OAKLAND -- Two men were fatally shot within an hour Friday night, one in East Oakland and the other in West Oakland, police said.
An arrest was made in the East Oakland shooting.
The names of the victims were not released pending notification of relatives.
The first shooting happened about 6:25 p.m. in a garage in the 1000 block of 102nd Avenue in East Oakland.
Police said two men got into an argument that eventually ended with one shooting the other. The wounded man died at a hospital at 7 p.m.
The suspected gunman was arrested at the scene and was being interviewed by police investigators Friday night. His name was not released. It was not known what prompted the argument but it was believed the men knew each other.
The other fatal shooting happened about 7:20 p.m. in the 1600 block of 11th Street in West Oakland.
Police responding to reports of shots fired found a man wounded by gunfire lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were trying to determine the motive for the shooting. The gunman was being sought Friday night.
The two killings were Oakland's 57th and 58th homicides this year. Last year at this time there were 60 homicides in the city.
