The Lake Merritt 12th Street project is another step closer to completion with the installation of the new pedestrian bridge on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012. The pedestrian bridge is 15 feet wide, 146 feet long, and weighs 64 tons. It spans the new open waterway that replaced culverts that formerly ran under 12th Street. When the connecting pathways are completed late this year, the new bridge will allow pedestrians to circumnavigate Lake Merritt at lake level for the first time in many decades according to Joel Peters, Program Manager for the Measure DD project with the City of Oakland.
