OAKLAND -- An autopsy Tuesday determined that a dead man found Sunday wrapped in fabric in the back seat of a car died from gunshot wounds, police said.
Police are still trying to confirm the man's identity but believe he is from another East Bay city.
His death brings the city's homicide count for the year to 98, eight more than last year at this time.
The man was found about 5 p.m. Sunday in the back seat of a car parked in the 2400 block of Ritchie Street. Police believe the car had been there for a few days. Police would not say yet who the car belonged to.
Officer Eric Milina, the lead investigator, said Tuesday that police don't have a motive yet for the killing and no one has been arrested.
