OAKLAND -- Three men were arrested Wednesday night for trying to rob a marijuana grower at an East Oakland house, police said.

The robbery was foiled by an alert resident in the area who saw the suspects forcing the man inside the house at gunpoint, police said.

The robbery happened about 7:15 p.m. at a house in the 9500 block of Coral Road, where police said some 300 marijuana plants with a street value of more than $100,000 were being grown.

Police were told by the witness that the suspects confronted the 27-year-old man outside the home and forced him inside at gunpoint, according the witness.

Police said the suspects tried to flee when they heard police cars arriving, but were arrested as they were leaving the house.

The three suspects, 20 and 21-year-old Oakland residents and a 23-year-old Richmond man, were arrested on suspicion of robbery and kidnapping for the purpose of robbery.

Their names were not released. The victim was questioned and released pending further investigation. The plants were seized by police.
