The man was Arnold Salas Garcia of Downey, said Lt. Joe Bale of the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
A bicyclist found Garcia unconscious in the 10300 block of Foster Road on the west side of the San Gabriel River at 8:23 p.m. Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses said Garcia was walking along the east side of the San Gabriel River when he was approached by "1-3" males, one of whom stabbed him, according to a department statement. Garcia ran off and collapsed on the west side of the river.
