OAKLAND -- A man was shot Friday afternoon in East Oakland, apparently after he tried to stop some burglars who were fleeing a friend's house with some property, police said.
The name and age of the victim were not released. He was wounded in the abdomen and was in serious condition at a hospital.
The burglars were being sought Friday afternoon.
The shooting happened about 1:05 p.m. in the 2200 block of Auseon Avenue, a tree-lined block of homes that runs between Bancroft Avenue and Dowling Street.
Police said it appears the man was riding on a bicycle when he saw at least two men fleeing from a house of a friend carrying some property, including a flat screen television.
When the man tried to stop them he was shot at several times and wounded once. A parked car was also hit by gunfire, police said.
The man was found in the street by police. His bicycle and the television were lying nearby.
The suspects fled through some yards and were last seen on 86th Avenue.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or a tip line at 510-773-2805.
