OAKLAND -- A least 700 marijuana plants and 20 to 30 pounds of harvested product were seized by police Wednesday morning at an East Oakland warehouse.
The raid occurred about 7:45 a.m. when a search warrant was served at the warehouse at 7800 Edgewater Drive, police said. In addition to the marijuana, two starter pistols and a large amount of cash were seized, police said.
Two people were arrested, including one man who lived there. The estimated street value of the pot is more than $500,000.
Residents in area were concerned about foot traffic at all hours and some claimed they could smell marijuana, police said.
A squad of problem-solving officers, commanded by Sgt. Jim Beere gained enough evidence to get a search warrant issued at the warehouse.
Police said they had a full operation with lighting, ventilation and were apparently stealing electricity from another business in the area. They did not have permits for growing marijuana for medicinal purposes.
