OAKLAND -- Four people were wounded Saturday morning after a 37-year-old man shot at a car and an occupant of the vehicle fired back on an East Oakland street, police said.
All of the victims are expected to recover in the shooting that happened less than a mile from St. Benedict's Church, where a gun buy back event was scheduled to start two hours later.
The shooting happened about 7:30 a.m. in the 8400 block of International Boulevard near a store that had not opened for business yet.
Police said a car going west on International stopped on the street and a man standing on the sidewalk began shooting at the occupants.
An occupant of the car returned fire. The first shooter was injured on the sidewalk, along with two other men, ages 35 and 41. An 18-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car was wounded.
The woman was driven to a hospital by a 17-year-old boy who was being questioned by police Saturday night. The three men were taken by ambulance to a hospital.
A motive for the shooting has not been established yet.
