OAKLAND -- Two Oakland men were arrested on suspicion of auto theft and resisting arrest after leading police on a car and foot chase Monday afternoon.
Arrested were Donte Neal, 22, and Lewis Lovett, 21, police said.
About 3:20 p.m. Monday, a San Leandro police officer ran the license plate of a vehicle traveling in the 300 block of East 14th Street in San Leandro. The car had been reported stolen and the patrol officer tried to stop it to investigate.
The driver sped north into Oakland, crashing into several parked cars in the 1900 block of 105th Avenue in Oakland. The two suspects then got out of the car and ran in different directions, police said.
Oakland police and the Alameda County Sheriff's Department canine unit responded. Police said the driver was seen running south into the backyard on 105th Avenue and the passenger ran north on Birch Street.
While the search was underway, San Leandro police received an anonymous tip that one man was hiding in a trailer near 104th Avenue and Birch Street. Police found him there and arrested him. The second man was found hiding in a rear yard between 105th and 106th Avenue and was detained with the help of the sheriff's department's dog.
