You people are sick ... and kind of funny.

There are a lot of people out there having some fun with the story about Notre Dame star linebacker Manti Te'o, whose inspiring story of playing in Notre Dame's big game against Michigan State last fall despite losing his grandmother and girlfriend within hours of each other, was revealed Wednesday to be false.

And, of course, Twitter is involved.

As the story went, Te'o, supposedly inspired by the girlfriend telling him to go out and play and not worry about her, made a season-high 12 tackles, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery in a 20-3 victory against the Spartans. His inspired play became a stirring story line for the Fighting Irish as they made a run to the national championship game and as Te'o emerged as a Heisman Trophy hopeful.,

Te'o's grandmother really did die. However his "girlfriend," identified as Stanford University student Lennay Kekua, never existed.

After the story was debunked, Notre Dame said Wednesday that Te'o was duped into an online relationship with a woman whose ''death'' from leukemia was allegedly faked by perpetrators of an elaborate hoax.

Now the whole country seems to be weighing on whether Te'o was duped -- he supposedly met the girl online months earlier and got to know her without ever actually meeting her -- or whether he was in on the story, to make his season look that much more heroic.

And the public -- being sensitive types -- is all over the topic. On Twitter, there's already an account encouraging users to contribute songs for Te'o and his fake girlfriend, at #mantiteoplaylist. Among the suggestions:

"Best I Never Had," by Beyoncé

"I Just Haven't Met You Yet," by Michael Buble.

"Here Without You," from 3 Doors Down

"Imaginary Lover," by Atlanta Rhythm Section

"Just My Imagination," from the Temptations.

"With or Without You," by U2.

"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," by Taylor Swift.

"Invisible Touch," by Genesis.

"I'm Still Living With Your Ghost," by Everclear.

"Who Are You When I'm Not Looking," by Blake Shelton.

And the list goes on ... .
