OAKLAND -- Police confirmed at least one person was fatally shot and another shot and injured late Friday in the middle of the city's monthly Art Murmur scene.

An Oakland police officer said the first report of a shooting came at 10:51 p.m. in the Uptown neighborhood near the intersection of 23rd Street and Telegraph Avenue. One person was taken to a local hospital and no word was immediately available on that victim's condition, an Oakland police officer said late Friday.

Investigators were expected to remain on scene into the early morning hours, the officer said. Officers had been assigned to work Friday's event, as is usual during similar planned events, the officer said. No one has been identified or taken into custody yet in connection with the fatal shooting, the officer said.

We will continue to update this story as information becomes available.
