OAKLAND -- A 21-year-old woman shot to death Tuesday afternoon in East Oakland was the victim of an attempted robbery, police said.

They are not releasing the woman's name until relatives are notified.

The woman was with some people in a car about 2:43 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of 24th Avenue when they were confronted by two men, one with a gun. The men tried to rob the woman and when she started to drive away, she was shot.

She was able to drive a few blocks, to the 2300 block of Foothill Boulevard, where help was summoned, but she died later at Highland Hospital.

None of the other people in the car were hurt.

Police continue to look for the suspects. The homicide was the 29th so far this year in Oakland.
