OAKLAND -- The Oral Lee Brown Foundation will host its annual Black and White Tea and Fashion Show in October to support the foundation that helps low-income students get a shot at college.
The event will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Oakland Airport Hilton, 1 Hegenberger Road.
Oral Lee Brown began her foundation 26 years ago when she adopted the first-grade class at Brookfield Elementary School in Oakland, and promised all 23 students that, if they graduated from high school, she would make sure they were financially able to attend college.
In all, 56 students who accepted her offer, graduating from universities that included UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Xavier, Morehouse, and Bethune Cookman College.
Tickets to the event are $45 per person, which includes food, beverages and entertainment. Proceeds from the event will support foundation scholarships and year-round educational programming for disadvantaged at-risk students in the Bay Area.
