EL SOBRANTE -- A safe was stolen was from the El Sobrante Boys and Girls Club just hours after its annual "We are the Children of the World" fundraiser, according to authorities and the club's executive director.
The burglary at the club's office, located at 4674 Appian Way, occurred sometime in the early morning hours of Nov. 10, according to the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office. The fundraiser was held the previous night, but most of the money raised was in credit card payments and not in the safe, said Billy Zeier, the club's executive director.
"It is unbelievable that people would steal from this nonprofit organization that has dedicated over 60 years of service to our youth," Zeier said.
Authorities have made no arrests. A $1,000 reward is being offered for the return of the safe and its contents or for anyone with information leading to the arrests of the person responsible for the burglary, Zeier said.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the sheriff's investigation division as 925-313-2600. The Boys and Girls Club can be reached 510-223-5253.
