MARTINEZ -- Police continue to investigate the death of a teenage girl on a train track here late Sunday, and it will likely be Monday before investigators can rule on what happened.

Martinez police are investigating if the girl, 14, was possibly trying to retrieve her cell phone on the tracks about 5 p.m. Sunday when she was struck and killed, according to ABC 7 News.

The victim was pronounced dead next to the tracks shortly after being struck on the BNSF Railway Co. tracks, just east of Old Orchard and Howe roads, authorities said.

Her name and city of residence were not released Sunday night.

Calls to Martinez police were not returned Sunday night and no one was available for comment at BNSF Railway.
