OAKLAND -- A fire Tuesday morning at an East Oakland apartment caused significant damage, forcing the resident to seek other shelter, officials said.
The fire erupted about 7:27 a.m. in a lower unit at a complex in the 4400 block of Penniman Avenue in the Maxwell Park area. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 7:41 a.m..
All residents of the two-story complex got out on their own and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire, which was confined to the single apartment, and a damage estimate were not immediately available.
The resident of the burned apartment was being aided by the Red Cross.
