Terminology:
Article comments: Comments that readers make directly on articles.
Forums: Standalone message boards where readers can start and participate in discussions about any topic.
Why am I getting e-mails on stories I posted to? Can I change the frequency and/or stop them?
InsideBayArea.com has upgraded its article commenting system so you can now follow stories you are interested in via e-mail as well as online. To start, when you post a new comment on an article, you will be automatically signed up to receive e-mail alerts every 4 hours if there are further comments on that story. You can change this setting if you prefer to receive the message more or less frequently or not at all.
To change the frequency of the e-mail alerts: Go to the forums here. Sign in to your account (if you are not already signed in) then click the "My Account" link on the left. Click on the "Subscriptions" tab within your account profile where you can change the "send interval" to be hourly, every four hours or daily. Note: If you prefer to receive the alerts as separate messages for every comment, uncheck the "Digest mode" box.
To stop the automatic subscription when you comment: If you do not wish to be automatically subscribed to e-mails when you post a comment on an article, you can turn off this feature by going to

To unsubscribe from select stories you've commented on: If you would like to continue to be autosubscribed when you comment on an article, but wish to stop a specific article subscription, you can do so by going to the forums here. Sign in to your account (if you are not already signed in), then click the "My Account" link on the left. Click on the "Subscriptions" tab and "Topics/Polls" within your account profile and uncheck any specific subscriptions to which you wish to unsubscribe.
Do I need a new login for article commenting if I already have a forums login?
The login information is the same as that of our forums. If you already have an account in our forums, simply use that login to get started. If you do not have a forum account, you can create one here.
I don't want my name on my comments; can I still be anonymous with this new system?
We realize that for privacy reasons many readers do not want their real name to appear on their comments. While we do encourage you to use your real name as a way to add credibility to your comments, you are not required to do this. When you create an account for the forums, you will select a username, which will appear on any forum posts or article comments you make. You can choose whatever username you wish (as long as it isn't already in use by another person).
What do I do if I am having problems signing in and/or experiencing other technical issues?

1) Detailed description of the problem you experienced. What steps did you take leading to that outcome? If you got an error, what did the error say
2) Are you on a Mac or PC?
