OAKLAND — A 14-year-old boy has died from injuries suffered Saturday in the Fruitvale district when he was struck by a car whose driver did not stop, police said.

He was identified as Raul Soto, a student at Peralta Creek Middle School. He died Tuesday at Children's Hospital Oakland.

Raul was injured about 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Fruitvale Avenue and East Ninth Street.

Police said he was walking alone in a crosswalk crossing on East Ninth at Fruitvale when he was hit by a car going at high speed that turned onto East Ninth from Fruitvale, Officer Mike Cardoza said. Raul was dragged a short distance by the car before rolling free. Police are still searching for the vehicle and the driver.

The car was described as a tan Honda or Toyota four-door with a chrome front grill.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver.
