PITTSBURG — More than 3,300 PG&E customers lost power at the peak of Thursday's heat wave, the utility reported tonight.

At 3:51 p.m., more than 3,210 customers in the Bailey Road area of Pittsburg lost power after an equipment failure, PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said. As of 9 p.m., all but 633 customers had power restored and Guidi said the remaining customers would have power restored by 1 a.m.

Then, at 5:56 p.m., 180 customers in downtown Walnut Creek lost power. Guidi said the cause of that outage has not been determined but that crews hoped to have power restored by 10 p.m.

It was not clear whether the outages were caused by the heat, Guidi said.
