A man who had just turned 41 on Monday was shot to death outside his East Oakland home in the 7000 block of Lacy Avenue, police said. He was identified as Robert W. Tibbs. Less than 12 hours earlier, at 1:54 p.m. Wednesday, a man was fatally shot near the corner of Laurel Avenue and Dakota Street. The victim was identified as Curtis Holden, a truck driver who lives in Oakland. No suspects have been arrested in that homicide.
In the Wednesday night shooting, police said Tibbs apparently got into an argument with someone outside his house and was shot. Police were interviewing several people this morning in connection with the shooting, but so far nobody has been arrested.
The two killings mark Oakland's 54 and 55th homicides this year. Last year at this time there were 38.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to a $10,000 reward for details leading to the killer's arrest in the first shooting. Anyone with information can call police at 510-238-3821, or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
