One of television's most buzz-laden pilots -- "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," has been picked up for the fall by ABC.

From geek god Joss Whedon, "S.H.I.E.L.D." is an offshoot of "The Avengers" feature-film franchise. The first promotional clip from the series is set to air this Sunday during the season finale of "Once Upon a Time."

"S.H.I.E.L.D." follows an elite law enforcement organization that investigates "the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary."

The cast includes "ER" alum Ming-Na (as expert pilot and martial artist Melinda May), Clark Gregg (reprising his big-screen "Avengers" role as Agent Phil Coulson), "Nashville"'s Chloe Bennet (as new recruit and computer hacker Skye), British beauty Elizabeth Henstridge (genius bio-chemist Jemma Simmons), Iain De Caestecker (tech whiz Leo Fitz) and Brett Dalton (rising star Agent Grant).
