The San Jose Fire Department spent Wednesday morning canvassing a West San Jose neighborhood plagued by a serial arsonist torching trash bins and surrounding debris and vegetation during the past two weeks.
Firefighters passed out flyers and talked to residents and business owners around the 1100 block of Delna Manor Lane, off Downing and South Bascom avenues, which has had eight Dumpster fires dating back to Sept. 26.
The first of the string was initially thought to be Sept. 30 but investigators have since learned about the earlier case.
The fires -- the most recent occurring Monday evening -- have not caused any injuries or structure damage but authorities are wary that things could easily get out of control, fire Capt. Mary Gutierrez said.
Investigators have not identified any witnesses to the fires, which have occurred mostly on the weekends, Gutierrez said.
Anyone with information about the fires can contact the San Jose Fire Department's arson tip line at 408-27-ARSON (27766).
