SAN JOSE -- Gang investigators are looking for suspects after a nonfatal stabbing that happened Thursday night on the same block of a street where a man was shot to death earlier this year.
According to police reports, two people approached the victim on the 1000 block of Walnut Woods Drive near Kelley Park around 6:15 p.m. and "made a gang statement" before stabbing him and hitting him with an unknown blunt object. The victim was hospitalized with wounds not believed to be life-threatening.
The attackers fled the scene and remain at large, police said.
On May 16, 18-year-old Ricky Jacques was shot and killed near the scene of Wednesday's attack. Another victim who was with Jacques was beaten in the attack but survived.
On Oct. 3, San Jose police arrested Adrian Alaniz, 24, Juan Carlos Castillo, 18, Erik Hernandez, 18, Thomas Leyva, 24, Eduardo Magana, 19, Juan Pineda, 20, Ramon Ramirez, 20, and an unidentified minor in connection with Jacques' slaying.
Police spokesman Officer Albert Morales credited dogged persistence by homicide investigators in solving that case. He added that residents who are "tired of being held captive in their own neighborhoods" have been coming forward with increasing frequency with tips that help identify suspects.
