A 53-year-old man was pronounced dead Friday after his car struck an embankment and overturned in Tiburon, authorities said.
The man's name was not released while coroner's investigators tried to reach family members. He is a resident of Isleton, with ties to Washington state, said sheriff's Lt. Keith Boyd, assistant county coroner.
The crash occurred at about 11 a.m. Friday on Tiburon Boulevard near Avenida Miraflores, said Tiburon fire Battalion Chief Ed Lynch. The vehicle was heading west when it drove off the road, went up an embankment, struck some rocks and overturned on its driver's side, Lynch said.
The driver was trapped in the car, and firefighters got him out by cutting the roof off the car. He was pronounced dead at Marin General Hospital.
The cause of death is under investigation.
The driver was the only person in the car, which had a Washington license plate.
