SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO -- One person was killed Saturday afternoon in a multicar accident at an Interstate 280 onramp.
The southbound Westborough onramp was closed for two hours because of the fatal accident and a second accident, a hit-and-run.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating both accidents, which occurred at 12:20 p.m., said Officer James Evans.
Officers initially thought one accident had occurred but later found that there were two, he said. The fatality was the result of the multivehicle accident, he added.
The San Mateo County coroner's office had not yet released the name of the victim, pending notification of the family. Evans said he did not know if the victim was a man, woman or child or whether the person was driving one of the vehicles involved in the crash.
"We don't have any reports of any other injuries at this time," he said. "And we don't have the exact number of vehicles involved."
