SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO -- A Daly City man was arrested on robbery and assault charges Tuesday after attempting to rob a supermarket and beating employees who tried to detain him, police said.

David Ramos, 21, was booked into San Mateo County Jail on Christmas Day after he tried to rob the Pacific Supermarket located at 1015 El Camino Real, South San Francisco Police Lt. Mike Remedios said.

Officers responded to the store about 4:30 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a robbery was taking place, Remedios said. Investigators found that Ramos assaulted at least two of the store employees with a glass bottle after they confronted him while he was trying to steal items from the supermarket.

No one was seriously injured in the attack¿, Remedios said. It is currently unknown what the suspect was allegedly trying to take from the store.

Store employees were able to restrain Ramos until police arrived, Remedios said. He was arrested without incident on charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
