SAN JOSE -- A pedestrian walking in lanes of traffic was struck and killed about 7:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 101 just north of the Interstate 880 interchange, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to CHP spokesman D.J. Sarabia, they received calls at 7:18 p.m. reporting a person in the traffic lanes, possibly trying to cross the roadway. Sarabia said no vehicles were parked on the side of the road and it was not known how the person got on the highway.
The person was hit by at least one vehicle a short time later near the Old Bayshore Highway, Sarabia said.
Sarabia said they did not have a gender or an estimated age of the person struck. He said the driver remained at the scene and did not appear to be intoxicated.
No additional details were immediately available.
